About Israel Geological Society
The Israel Geological Society (IGS) is a non-profit organization whose aims are to provide a forum for presentation and discussion of new subjects and current issues and the promotion of Earth Sciences in Israel. Membership of the IGS is open to anyone interested in Earth Sciences and related fields. The membership includes people working in the various fields of the Earth Sciences; among them are the staff and students of the academic institutions, staff of the research institutions and commercial organization and private individuals. The IGS has 400 members, among them students, retired individuals and new immigrants. The main activities of the IGS are:
  • The Annual Meeting, which provides a stage for the presentation and discussion of current topics of interest in Earth Sciences, through lectures, posters and field excursion.
  • Earth Sciences Day, open to the general public, in which lectures are presented with the aim of increasing public awareness of the Earth Sciences.

  • The Israel Journal of Earth Sciences. A professional journal published annually in English in four issues. The journal is a primary medium for the publication of Earth Sciences in our region. The journal is distributed to all society members and to libraries in Israel and abroad.
  • Society Awards. The IGS annually presents awards for outstanding research achievements in Earth Sciences and a medal for an outstanding contribution to the public awareness of Earth Sciences.

The IGS is administrated by an annually elected committee, which includes the President and the Vice President and five committee members. The society's activities are funded by the annual membership fee and by contributions from various institutions and organizations.
