Honorary Members And Medal Recipients
Honorary membership is awarded to members who have made an exceptional contribution to the Earth Sciences or related fields. The IGS medal for an outstanding contribution to public awareness of the Earth Sciences is given to members who have made such a contribution for at least three years. The medal is awarded for activities in the following fields: formal and informal education, environmental organizations, policy planning institutes, preservation of geological sites, and popular science writing. The medal award committee comprises three IGS members, with the IGS President acting as head of the committee.
